SUSTAINABILITY/LEED
What is LEED?
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is committed to a sustainable future. USGBC has developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, which has become the most widely used green building rating system in the world. The LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement. The intent of the system is to establish guidelines to ensure attention is given to utilization of natural resources, site selection, site preparation, site development, pollution and building materials selection.
LEED V4
Launched November 2013 and replaced LEED v2009
Materials & Resources (MR)
- Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction
- MPI Doors & Frames have a long life-cycle and should allow re-use on LEED projects

- Option 1 Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)
- MPI has taken part in third-party certifications for both industry-wide and product-specific EPD'
- Option 2 Multi-Attribute Optimization
- MPI has demonstrated impact reduction below industry average in all six of the indicated categories and qualifies for this credit.
- Option 1 Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)
- Building Product Disclosure and Optimization - Sourcing of Raw Materials
- Steel makes up over 90% of MPI's finished products and is one of the most recycled raw materials in the world
Product | Post-Consumer Recycled Content |

LEED V2009
This credit launched April 2009
USGBC is no longer accepting new project to register under this version. They will continue to accept paperwork for already approved projects until the sunset date of June 30, 2021.
Materials & Resources (MR)
- Recycled Content (MRc4.1 & MRc4.2)
- MRc4.1 requires 10% total recycled content based on formulation
- MRc4.2 requires 20% total recycled content based on formulation
Product | Post-Consumer Recycled Content |
Pre-Consumer Recycled Content |
Total Recycled Content (formulated) |
Frame | 27.6% | 53.5% | 54.35% |
Polystyrene Core Door | 28.2% | 54.9% | 55.65% |
- Regional Materials (MRc5.1 & MRc5.2)
- Criteria requires material suppliers to be within 500 mile radius from job site.
- MPI uses various steel suppliers and can typically route our supply to meet this criteria.
Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ)
- Daylight
- MPI product using glazing will allow more light flow and will assist in achieving this credit
- Quality Views
- MPI product using glazing will allow for better views and will assist in achieving this credit
